Are MMCC Cards Necessary in Maryland?
To obtain medical marijuana in Maryland, you must have an MMCC card. It allows you to legally purchase medical-grade marijuana from dispensaries and use it. MMCC stands for the ‘Maryland Medical Cannabis Commission’ and is a government organization that oversees medical marijuana distribution in the state.
This card allows the carrier to legally use marijuana for several medical conditions, including “…cachexia, anorexia, wasting syndrome, severe or chronic pain, severe nausea, seizures, severe or persistent muscle spasms, glaucoma, post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), or another chronic medical condition which is severe and for which other treatments have been ineffective.”, according to the official MMCC website.
Why Do I Need an MMCC Card?
Recreational marijuana use is still illegal in Maryland and an MMCC card is a legal way to obtain and purchase medical-grade marijuana. Though possession of 10 grams or less has been decriminalized, an MMCC card is still the only sure way to legally use marijuana for medical purposes.
Who Can Prescribe an MMCC card?
Health professionals like physicians, dentists, nurse practitioners, nurse midwives, and podiatrists may prescribe medical marijuana. Did you know only 1% of Maryland’s total number of health professionals are registered to do this? That’s why Maryland Greenscript Cannabis is proud to offer this service to our patients.
How Do I Get an MMCC Card?
There are three steps involved in getting an MMCC Card:
- Register as a patient with MMCC on the official website. You will need a valid, accessible email account, the last four digits of your Social Security Number, an electronic copy of a valid government-issued photo ID, and proof that you live in Maryland.
- Once you are approved, you must visit a provider registered with MMCC, like Outreach Health and Wellness and get valid certification.
- After registering, obtaining a valid written certification from a registered provider, and printing a temporary MMCC Patient ID card, you can visit a licensed Maryland dispensary and purchase medical cannabis!
Where Do I Use an MMCC Card?
Your card is only valid in licensed dispensaries in the state of Maryland. There are approximately 102 licensed stores across the state.
Are There Limitations on the MMCC Card?
Yes, there are several limitations. You can only purchase a thirty-day supply of medical cannabis at a time and you must use your certification within 120 days of issue, otherwise, it becomes void.
